Facelift (Rhytidectomy):

   Face lift is a cosmetic surgery that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck. This procedure lifts sagging skin on the face and neck and causes you look like youthful.

Face lift can’t stop aging process and they also can’t treat superficial wrinkles, sun damage or irregularities in your skin color.

Face lift surgery involves elevating the skin and tightening the tissues and muscles. Fat in the face and neck may be sculpted, removed or moved. Facial skin is then re-draped over the newly repositioned contours of the face. The incisions depend on the technique that will be used, includes:

  • A traditional face-lift incision starts at your temples in the hairline. It continues down and around the front of the ears. It ends behind the ears in the lower scalp. An incision might be made under the chin to improve the appearance of your neck.
  • A limited incision is shorter and begins in the hairline just above the ear. It wraps around the front of the ear but doesn’t extend all the way into the lower scalp.
  • Neck lift incision starts in front of the earlobe. It continues around the ear into the lower scalp. A small incision also is made under the chin.

Facelift recovery time does take several weeks after surgery for facelift side effects, like swelling and bruising, to dissipate. Our facility can offer medications to make you feel comfortable while resting at home. You should look and feel normal after 2 – 4 weeks.

Generally, we have patients that are in their late 40s or early 50s seeking a facelift. Many range between 40-60 years old. On the younger end, many patients opt for a mini facelift (more on that below), so that they do not have to invest the money and time for a more in depth procedure later on.

A facelift can occasionally result in problems, including: nerve injury and loss of sensation or movement in the face. Asymmetrical facial features – including the position of the earlobe. Hair loss or a small but permanent reduction in hair growth around the scars.

Although you will experience additional signs of aging, this may not occur for several years, and, even then, your skin quality will always be firmer and smoother than it would have been without the surgery.

Any swelling and/or bruising will peak three to four days following your surgery. It is recommended that you sleep on two pillows for the first two weeks following your surgery to help alleviate swelling. Do not underestimate the importance of keeping your head elevated.

Smoking, diet, and sun exposure can all contribute to an accelerated “genetic age.” Generally, we find that patients who get facelifts after 40 but before 50 years old achieve long-lasting benefits. That does not mean, however, that you cannot get excellent results from a facelift if you are over 50 years of age.

A face-lift can give your face and neck a more youthful look. But face-lift results are not permanent. With age, the skin on the face may begin to droop again. In general, a face-lift can be expected to last 10 years.
